Distilled Water is the Cleanest Water
Both advocates of Distilled water and detractors of distilled water agree that distilled water is the cleanest water.
But is distilled water good or bad?
Those who claim distilled water causes harm have essentially 2 main arguments.
- Distilled water lacks minerals, most of which consist of calcium, sodium and magnesium.

https://www.webmd.com/diet/distilled-water-overview#:~:text=from%20boiling%20water.-,Is%20Distilled%20Water%20Safe%20to%20Drink%3F,tap%20water%20its%20familiar%20flavor.
“[Distilled water is] stripped of important minerals like calcium, sodium, and magnesium that give tap water its familiar flavor.”
- Distilled water not only does not provide any minerals, but it then also removes minerals.
Their conclusion is that since people need those minerals, distilled water must be bad, especially long term.
I would estimate that about 70% of the articles out there against distilled water say it depletes minerals, without identifying the minerals, and then conclude this is bad, without saying what diseases will be caused. This creates unreasonable fear, because distilled water lacks “unknown” minerals, which we obviously need, but for who knows what?
I estimate that about 30% of the articles on distilled water will go on to identify that the main minerals that distilled water lacks are calcium and magnesium, and thus, they make quick assumptions to conclude that distilled water contributes to weaker bones, arthritis, or osteoporosis. Here is an example:
Here is a DOCTOR warning that distilled water can cause osteoporosis, in his article on osteoporosis:
https://doctorkeppel.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/NFHC_Article_What-Is-Osteoporosis.pdf
“You really don’t want to drink distilled water because the process of distillation removes minerals to achieve a neutral pH. Drinking distilled water will dehydrate and demineralize you.”
Admittedly, studies show that when people start drinking distilled water, they lose more minerals than they take in. But these are usually short 6-week studies.
I have drank distilled water since I was 18, and now I’m 55, so for 37 years. I’m fine. In fact, I recovered from a “low mineral” disease, arthritis, while drinking distilled water, and while consuming another demineralizing substance, leafy greens. How is that even possible? The things that caused my arthritis are likely my former alcoholism and cortisol medication, and low minerals (especially low copper) in the food supply.
The key problems with those arguments against distilled water are that:
- There is no evidence for their claims that distilled water causes any death, nor harm, nor osteoporosis, long term.
- They never warn about any other demineralizing substances, nor list any. (lie of omission)
- They never warn about things that really cause osteoporosis. (lie of omission)
- They never advise about things that really heal osteoporosis. (lie of omission)
- There is no evidence that tap water prevents or cures osteoporosis, or cures anything at all. (refuting fact)
In fact, distilled water itself helps us absorb minerals!
https://hammernutrition.com/blogs/endurance-library/distilled-water-enhances-mineral-absorption
“DOES DISTILLED WATER LEACH MINERALS FROM OUR BODIES?
Absolutely, not…in fact just the opposite has been found to occur in cellular research studies. It is a mistaken belief that drinking pure distilled water reduces valuable minerals from living human tissues.”

“On the average, over 95% of the major and trace minerals ingested daily (by weight) come from food (fruits, vegetables, animal products) – and less than 5% from drinking water.”
Of 28 substances measured in tap water, only a few measured over 1 ppm, as follows:
Chloride 84 ppm
Sodium 82.8 ppm (NaCl is salt)
Calcium 44.65 ppm
Nitrate 31.65 ppm
Magnesium 15.1 ppm
Potassium 8.185 ppm
Fluoride 3.7 ppm (should be 0.7 ppm or under!)
Chlorine 1.55 ppm
Remember, ppm is also mg/Liter.
The average person drinks 8 cups per day, equaling to 1/2 gallon per day and 182.5 gallons per year.
https://watertalks.csusb.edu/how-much-water-do-people-use#:~:text=The%20average%20person%20drinks%208,and%20182.5%20gallons%20per%20year.
A liter is 4.2 cups.
The average person drinks 8/4.2 Liters, or 1.9 Liters per day of water. So, the amounts above need to be multipled by 1.9 to see the total mg of minerals supplied by tap water.
Chloride 84 ppm x 1.9 = 160 mg
Sodium 82.8 ppm x 1.9 = 160 mg (rounded to 2 significant figures)
Calcium 44.65 ppm x 1.9 = 86 mg
Nitrate 31.65 ppm x 1.9 = 61 mg
Magnesium 15.1 ppm x 1.9 = 29 mg
Potassium 8.185 ppm x 1.9 = 15 mg
Fluoride 3.7 ppm x 1.9 = 7 mg
Chlorine 1.55 ppm x 1.9 = 3 mg
American Average daily intake of Sodium: 3400 mg https://www.cdc.gov/salt/food.htm
American Average daily intake of Calcium: 1083 mg

Tap Water’s percent of daily mineral intake:
Sodium: 160/3400 = 4.7%
Calcium: 86/1083 = 7.9%
Magnesium: 29/420 = 6.9%
Potassium: 15/3016 = 0.5%
Distilled water also removes 99.9% of all sorts of organic chemicals and pesticides and medication in the water.
There are large lists of these contaminants here:
https://www.purewaterinc.com/Benefits-Of-Distilled-Water
Tap water and ground water is contaminated with pharmaceuticals, too.

https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/watering/using-distilled-water-on-plants.htm
“The National Student Research Center did an experiment with plants watered with tap, salt, and distilled water. The plants that received distilled water had better growth and more leaves.”

How can distilled water help us absorb minerals, as this seems counterintuitive? Well, excessive calcium, sodium, and magnesium can block other minerals. Distilled water helps us avoid and remove excessive minerals, which then allows for more absorption of the micro minerals that we need, which are not even included in tap water to begin with.
Some people claim that distilled water is not natural. But it is. Distilled just means evaporated and recondensed.
The natural water cycle is that water flows to the oceans. Then it evaporates and becomes clouds, and then condenses to form rain. In other words, rain is distilled water. This natural rain water has left behind the salty minerals in the oceans, just like distilled water leaves minerals behind.
Some people claim that distilled water is “dead” water. This is a weirdly false claim. It implies that other forms of water are “alive”. All water is dead water. Water is not “alive” in any sense of the words “alive” and “living”. Life is defined as things that are alive and breathing and have the “breath of life”.
Distilled water absorbs minerals just fine.

So, if distilled water, without calcium and magnesium, will supposedly cause osteoporosis…, then why doesn’t tap water, with its calcium, magnesium, and fluoride, cure osteoporosis? Clearly, those slandering distilled water are totally wrong. About everything!
Why isn’t there any evidence that distilled water causes osteoporosis? It was child’s play for me to find sources for all the things that I know cause osteoporosis, and cure it, in the article above, “How to increase bone mineral density”.
=====
There are major entities that are threatened by this information:
- The Federal Government has created regulations that allow local cities to add fluoride to their water, without suffering the legal penalties from the illegal action of “poisoning the water supply”.
- The Medical Establishment adds fluoride to many prescription medications.
- Companies make water filtration systems that compete with distillation systems for your money.
- All sorts of “woo” manufacturers who claim you can “neutralize” toxins in tap water by some form of additive, treatment, light, sound, etc.
There is another group, and this is perhaps the most dangerous group of all.
- People who have been deceived by the four groups above.
Why is this last group the most dangerous? As Mark Twain said, “It is easier to deceive the people than it is to convince them that they have been deceived!”
Why is this so? Because when people discover they have been deceived, it hurts their pride. To admit they were wrong, they lash out, usually at whomever is near, such as the one who tells them the truth.
Truthtelling is not abuse, but they treat truth-tellers as if the truth-teller is the abusive one. Truthtelling is actually the opposite of abuse. There is a name for it. “Disabusing” others.
dis·a·buse
/ˌdisəˈbyo͞oz/
verb
persuade (someone) that an idea or belief is mistaken.
A person who was deceived was abused. A person who sees they were deceived is “disabused” because the abuse (the lie) has ended.
This explains why this is a super controversial topic. People are prideful. They hate the truth-tellers who disabuse them.
The liars above have strong vested interests to lie to you about fluoride. They also lie about distilled water, because distilled water allows people to escape their trap of fluoride poisoning.
