The Copper Revolution: Ch. 1: Copper’s Effects

Chapter 1: Copper’s Effects (what copper does in the body) To understand copper, we need to understand its effects, and what it actually does.  It seems everyone’s list is a little different, so I started making a list with the larger meta articles that list many scientific studies.

This chapter is a summary of the things that copper does for us.  As far as I know, this list is far bigger than any other list I have encountered elsewhere.  I am organizing the list into groups, to make it easier to add to the list.  Some things end up being in several groups.

Copper has many systemic effects that benefit the entire body.

General Strength:
boosting collagen,
strengthening bones, (35% collagen) through collagen, and taking calcium out of the soft tissues and into the bones.  (Vitamin K, Niacin, Silica, Magnesium, and Boron also help with taking calcium out of soft tissues and into the bones.  Vitamin D hurts this process.)

building muscle, (30% collagen)
burning fat,
stopping bleeding and bruising,
reducing inflammation,
improving cell oxygenation,
boosting antioxidant enzymes.

Nerves and Brain:
1-4: Copper boosts 4 neurotransmitters: serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine (adrenaline). 
5.  Copper acts as a neurotransmitter itself.
6.  Copper increases the re-uptake of neurotransmitters.
7.  Copper increases the electrical conductivity of the fluid around the nerves.
8.  Copper restores the myelin sheath, which is the fatty coating around the nerves, which greatly speeds up nerve response, and is responsible for “motor learning” and coordination, deep thinking, nerve health, and so much more.
9.  Copper binds to fluoride, detoxing it, carrying it out of the body, and fluoride is a nerve toxin.
10.  Copper increases blood supply in various ways, all of which are great for the nerves, which need access to a blood supply: copper clears out cholesterol, copper increases the life of red blood cells, copper helps the body create new blood vessels, as needed, and copper is directly good for the heart, which gets stronger with more copper.
11.  Copper helps the mitochondria in nerve cells make ATP for energy.
12.  Copper strengthens cell walls, including the cell wall of the nucleus.
13.  Copper lengthens the telomeres of the DNA, as short telomeres are a key aging sign.
14.  Copper boosts DHEA, the master hormone, and therefore boosts testosterone, known for building muscle. But why does it help lifters build muscle? Because testosterone heals. Testosterone also heals the nerves in many ways.
15.  Copper is needed to make and activate several copper-containing detox enzymes, one of which is SOD, which eliminates many chemical poisons, many of which are toxic to the nerves. Clearing out chemical poisons heals nerves.

Better organs: Better bones, bone marrow, and muscles, better brain and nervous system, better adrenal glands on top of the kidneys, improving kidney function, strengthening the heart, improving digestion, improving the lining of the intestines,improving liver function, improving pancreas function, improving thyroid function, improving the lungs, better skin, thicker skin, less sunburn, less wrinkles, more color in the skin, better tanning, less grey hair, less sweating,

General Energy: makes you less tired, yet aids deeper sleep, increased adrenaline and energy, yet, increases calm mood, boosting energy through ATP, increasing blood flow by clearing out excess cholesterol,

Hormones: increasing DHEA, the master hormone that is converted into others like testosterone, and growth hormone, helping the body make more T3 hormone from T4, helping make both T4 and T3 hormones more dopamine which is both a neurotransmitter and hormone,

Immune function: making more white blood cells that function better and last longer,killing fungus, killing bacteria, killing viruses.

Heart & Circulatory System: better formed blood cells, more blood cells, curing copper deficiency induced anemia, More neutrophils which are the most common white blood cells, Clearing out cholesterol from the blood vessels and turning it into good healing hormones, thus improving circulation and healing, Moving calcium from the soft tissues into the bones, improving circulation, (Hardening of the arteries is a combination of cholesterol and calcium, copper fixes both). Growing new capillaries, improving circulation, Strengthening blood vessel walls (by helping make collagen, with Vitamin C), Preventing spider and varicose veins, improving circulation, Stopping bleeding from blood vessel walls, which are the main precursor of “cholesterol/calcium” deposits, Preventing aneurysms, which are weakened and burst blood vessels (from better collagen), Stronger heart, improving circulation,Less internal blood clots from reduced Clotting factor VIII, better blood clotting when bleeds are exposed to air, lowers blood pressure, and by fixing copper deficiency, improves 80 other markers of heart disease.

Other: detoxes everything including fluoride, heavy metals, and chemical toxins, improved iron metabolism, and reduced excess iron, improves arthritis, osteoporosis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, improves lymph, helps the body retain salt, improves overall hydration, promotes growth, helps metabolize sugar, prevents many different manifestations of copper deficiency diseases, acts as an antioxidant, regulates gene expression, increases antihistamines,

A later chapter focuses on copper deficiency symptoms.  The two are like mirror images of each other.  For example, in copper deficiency, there is a low red blood cell count.  In copper sufficiency, red blood cell count is high.

The next chapters focus on proving up the summary above in the scientific research.  Most of these are meta article summaries of what copper does that quote multiple studies that often look at how copper deficiency decreases the numbers and functionality of many copper-containing enzymes, and what those enzymes do, and how various diseases are a result of reduced copper and reduced copper-containing enzymes.  This is not an exhaustive list of what copper does for the human body.  Many of the things listed would also improve a wide array of other things because they are systemic improvements.  Better energy, nerves, brain, circulation, collagen, and hormones are going to fix many other problems.

  1. Copper heals the nerves in other ways. Copper increases sensitivity to insulin, and cures diabetes, and helps in sugar metabolism. This is important because neuropathy is often seen in diabetes.
